Professional Triathlete Jessica Jacobs won Powerman Alabama, the Long Course Duathlon National Championship, this morning. The Maylene, Alabama resident completed the 8K run, 55K bike, and 8K run course in 2:30:35 to take first place by five minutes.
The 8K run course consisted of two loops through the flat streets of downtown Birmingham. With over twenty turns per lap, the technical three loop bike course covered the north and south sides of the city.
Racing under overcast and windy conditions, Jacobs led the race from the moment the gun went off. “In T1 I noticed only one other female with me, but once on the bike I just hammered away at the 55K course to open up my lead to over 4 minutes. I finished the race strong with a cartwheel at the finish line to solidify my first duathlon win.”
Coming up next for Jacobs is Ironman Coeur d’Alene followed by the Quelle Challenge Roth iron distance race in Germany, where she will attempt to break the world record for the 112 mile bike course.
